One source says her birthday is April 17th.
Born Bernice Kaufman in the Bronx, she married cartoonist Lou Myers in
1947 and attended Brooklyn College in 1966. The last address I have for
her is Peekskill, New York.
I read "My Mother is Lost" as a kid and now the book is hardly to be
found anywhere. (The kid is lost in a department store and finds another
lost kid, with whom he has fun - much to the annoyance of the staff.)
Also the author of "Sidney Rella and the Glass Sneaker"(1985). She
illustrated the "Norman" sports-playing turtle series.
From "Contemporary Authors":
Published in 1968, Not This Bear! was warmly received by critics who,
like one contributor to Booklist, felt that the "ridiculous
predicament" of a boy mistaken by an overly friendly family of bears as
one of their own would "delight" young children. Myers published
several sequels to Not This Bear!, including Herman and the Bears
Again, in which Herman visits his bear friends in the woods and is
"rescued" by an overzealous scout leader. A School Library Journal
critic praised Myers's illustrations for "ably catching the lunatic
spirit" of her story. In a third book, Herman and the Bears and the
Giants, Herman learns how to ride his bicycle with three bears balanced
on his shoulders and joins the circus. Another episode, Little John
Bear in the Big City, is about Herman's poor bear friend, whose coat is
too shabby to wear to his cousin's wedding; to get properly attired, he
goes to the city to borrow Herman's fur coat for the occasion.
